Professor Pierre Aronnax, a noted French naturalist, joins an official American expedition aboard the frigate Abraham Lincoln to hunt down and destroy the supposed monster. During the chase, an unexpected collision casts Aronnax, his manservant Conseil, and the Canadian harpooner Ned Land overboard into the open sea. They find themselves cast upon the back of a metallic vessel, which they soon realize is an advanced submarine controlled by an enigmatic figure known as Captain Nemo.
Captain Nemo takes the three men as prisoners of war, ensuring they can never return to the land they have renounced.
