The crew of the space freighter Solar Queen lands on the perfumed planet Sargol to establish trade relations with the feline-ancestried Salariki natives. They soon discover that a powerful rival corporation, Inter-Solar, has sent agents to poach their exclusive trade rights. To make matters worse, the crew becomes entangled in a dangerous hunt for the native Koros stones and must battle the reptilian gorp monsters that rule the shallow seas. When a mysterious and debilitating illness breaks out among the crew, they are branded as a plague ship and forced into hiding.
