Pursued by geopolitical threats of war between European powers, Redgrave uses the craft's unmatched speed to broadcast an election message over Washington and several American cities, effectively averting a global conflict and securing an alliance between Britain and the United States. Following their marriage, the couple embarks on a grand honeymoon tour across the Solar System. They visit the dead, silent cities of the Moon, encounter strange and dangerous forms of life in the rosy atmosphere of Mars, and explore the luminous, paradisiacal highlands of Venus. Later, their journey takes them through the asteroid belt to the immense crystal cities of Ganymede and the fiery, chaotic cloud-canopies of Jupiter, narrowly escaping destruction in its molten depths. Finally, they navigate the many-coloured rings and giant oceans of Saturn before charting a course back toward Earth.
