Audiobook Pan Tadeusz; or, The last foray in Lithuania

The epic poem opens with the return of young Thaddeus Soplica to his ancestral home in Lithuania, where he is immediately captivated by a mysterious young woman he glimpses in the garden, later revealed to be Zosia. The household of Judge Soplica is consumed by preparations for a great hunt and a long-standing lawsuit against the rival Horeszko family over an ancient castle. This legal battle is inflamed by Gerwazy, the fanatical warden of the Horeszkos, and the eccentric young Count, who discovers romantic inspiration in the castle's ruins. Parallel to the domestic disputes and courtships involving Thaddeus and Telimena, a deeper political tension pervades the region as rumours spread of the impending invasion of Russia by Napoleon's armies, championed by the mysterious Bernardine monk Father Robak.

Robak, secretly Jacek Soplica in disguise, strives to atone for a tragic past by uniting the fractured gentry and preparing a local uprising. The tension culminates in a massive bear hunt in the great forest, followed by a violent brawl in the castle that temporarily shatters the peace between the factions. As old wounds reopen and the Count allies with Gerwazy to plan a traditional armed foray against the Soplicas, the characters are swept toward a decisive turning point. The narrative weaves together rich descriptions of Lithuanian rural customs, detailed hunting scenes, and deep emotional transformations, ultimately offering a vision of reconciliation, faith, and the enduring hope for the restoration of the Polish nation.
