67 М. Сибо, французский миссионер, писавший почти полтора века назад в своих мемуарах о китайцах ( II :280–293. 1784), приводит следующее описание персиков, с которыми он был знаком в Китае в то время:—

"Персики различаются по размеру и цвету, форме и скороспелости плодов. У некоторых мякоть белая, у некоторых зеленоватая, у некоторых нежно-желтая, у некоторых желто-оранжевая, а у некоторых мраморная; одни имеют круглую форму, другие овальную, третьи вытянуты в заостренный кончик, похожий на вороний клюв. Слыхали о персиках весом в два фунта или даже более. Самые крупные из тех, что я видел, едва достигали трех с половиной дюймов в длину и в диаметре; что касается скороспелости, в центральных провинциях персики поспевают чуть ли не одновременно с вишней. Еще более удивительно то, что некоторые сорта здесь не созревают вплоть до октября, и существует секрет, благодаря которому их можно сохранять до января такими же свежими, прекрасными и восхитительными на вкус, словно они только что с дерева".
