Введение:
Серия «Хроники Америки» имеет два похожих издания каждого тома в серии. Одна версия — это издание Авраама Линкольна, премиальная версия, которая включает полностраничные изображения. Также было выпущено учебное издание, которое не содержит изображений и подписей к ним, но в остальном является той же книгой. Эта книга была подготовлена в соответствии с учебным изданием книги.

Заметка о веках
На протяжении всей серии «Хроники Америки» большинство авторов предпочитали использовать дефис в «seventeenth-century customs» (обычаи семнадцатого века), но не использовать дефис в «customs in the seventeenth century» (обычаи в семнадцатом веке). В последнем случае «seventeenth century» является объектом предлога, в то время как в первом случае «seventeenth-century» является прилагательным.
