III. Пропуски. — Если пропущена буква, знак препинания или слово, пропуск следует обозначить знаком вставки (каре), а пропущенную букву, знак препинания или слово поместить на полях; например, 3, 6.
ПРИМЕЧАНИЯ.
1. Когда пропущены точка, тире, дефис, кавычки или знаки сносок, их следует обозначать на полях, как в I., прим. 2.
2. На полях справа от пропущенной буквы или знака препинания всегда следует проводить наклонную линию; например, 3.
3. Если пропущено несколько слов или строк, иногда необходимо написать слова в верхней или нижней части корректурного оттиска. В этом случае от знака вставки к вставляемым словам следует провести линию; например, 25.
4. Иногда пропущено так много, что необходимо обратиться к копии. В этом случае обозначьте пропуск знаком вставки, напишите «См. копию» на полях и заключите в скобки или квадратные скобки ту часть копии, которую нужно вставить в корректурный оттиск.
IV. Перевернутая буква. — Когда буква перевернута, через нее следует провести наклонную линию, а изменение отметить на полях знаком 9, напоминающим перевернутую 6; например, 13.
ПРИМЕЧАНИЕ.
Некоторые корректоры проводят линию под перевернутой буквой, но это не так легко распознать, как наклонную линию, проведенную через букву.
V. Вычеркивание. — Иногда необходимо вычеркнуть букву, знак препинания или слово. Через каждый из них следует провести линию, как в I. и II., а на полях поставить знак ₰, означающий «вычеркнуть»; например, 9, 19.
VI. Заглавные буквы и курсив. — Три линии, проведенные под словом, указывают на то, что слово должно быть напечатано прописными буквами; две линии — капителью; одна линия — курсивом. На полях также следует написать сокращения Caps., S. Caps., Ital.; например, 1, 2.
ПРИМЕЧАНИЯ.
1. Если слово набрано курсивом, а желательно изменить его на обычный шрифт, проведите линию под ним и напишите Rom. (сокращение от Roman) на полях; например, 15.
2. О замене слова, напечатанного заглавными буквами, на строчные см. II., прим.
VII. Интервалы. — Когда между двумя буквами слишком большой пробел, буквы следует соединить знаками ⁐, и тот же знак повторить на полях; например, 21. Одиночный знак ‿, соединяющий два слова и повторенный на полях, указывает на слишком большой пробел между словами; например, 23.
Когда между двумя словами недостаточно места, для указания нехватки пробела используется знак вставки, а на полях пишется знак #; например, 25.
ПРИМЕЧАНИЯ.
1. Если между двумя строками недостаточно места или его слишком много, этот факт можно отметить, как в 7 и 8, 13 и 14.
2. Когда в начале абзаца не оставлен отступ, знак вставки указывает на нехватку места, а на полях ставится знак ▭; например, 17.
VIII. Абзацы. — Когда требуется новый абзац, в корректурный оттиск перед первым словом нового абзаца вставляется знак [, а на полях ставится знак ¶; например, 10.
Когда два абзаца нужно объединить, их следует соединить линией, а на полях написать No ¶; например, 24.
ПРИМЕЧАНИЯ.
1. Линия, соединяющая два абзаца, обычно распознается настолько легко, что дополнительный знак на полях не всегда требуется.

IX. Исправление, которое следует игнорировать. — Точки, поставленные под словом, и надпись Stet. (что означает «пусть остается») на полях указывают на то, что исправление следует игнорировать; например, 25.
X. Поврежденные буквы. — Когда необходимо привлечь внимание печатника к поврежденной букве, под ней следует провести линию, а на полях поставить знак ×; например, 21.

XI. Перестановка. — Когда два слова должны поменяться местами, принято проводить линию над первым, продолжать ее под вторым и писать tr. (сокращение от transpose) на полях; например, 26.
ПРИМЕЧАНИЯ.
1. Когда несколько букв в слове стоят не в правильном порядке, либо проведите линию через слово и перепишите его на полях, либо проведите линию под или через буквы и напишите их в правильном порядке.
2. Когда нужно изменить порядок нескольких слов, укажите правильный порядок, поставив 1, 2, 3, 4 и т. д. над словами, проведите прямую линию под каждым из них и напишите tr. на полях.
XII. Кривые слова. — Когда буквы слова смещены, проведите линию над и под словом и повторите линии на полях; например, 28. Те же знаки используются для привлечения внимания к кривой строке.
XIII. Выступающие пробельные материалы (линейки). — Когда пробельный материал выступает настолько, что оставляет оттиск на корректуре, через него следует провести наклонную линию, а на полях поставить знак [символ] или [символ]; например, 22.
XIV. Дифтонги. — Когда æ и œ должны быть напечатаны как дифтонги, через них следует провести линию, а буквы, образующие дифтонг, написать на полях следующим образом: æ̑, œ̑.
XV. Знак внимания. — Знак + иногда используется для привлечения внимания печатника к какому-либо дефекту в слове или строке.

У многих корректоров принято проводить линию от ошибки в корректуре к исправлению на полях. Это всегда следует делать, когда ошибок много или строки расположены слишком тесно.
