The quiet tension between the Circle C and Bar Y ranches in Coyote City takes a sharp turn when the Bar Y outfit hires a boxing instructor named Herbert Malone. While the Circle C cowpunchers rely on wild, untrained swings, the rival ranch rapidly masters scientific, short-arm jabs that humiliate their opponents. Old Walrus, the strategic mastermind of the Circle C, refuses to let his men resort to gunplay under the watchful eye of the county sheriff.
Desperate for a solution to restore their supremacy, Walrus travels to Los Angeles to meet with film studio connections. There, he encounters Pug Parry, a colossal movie extra who performs feats of strength like bending iron bars with his teeth and hands. Convinced that Parry is the ultimate weapon, Walrus hires the giant and brings him back to the ranch as a permanent fixture to intimidate the Bar Y.
Upon their arrival in Coyote City, Parry immediately catches the eye of Dotty Manners, the local movie theatre cashier who fancies manly men. Big Hat Phil Dunton, a diminutive Circle C puncher deeply in love with Dotty, finds himself entirely overshadowed by the towering, battered giant. Parry's intimidating strength and screen reputation as a champion fighter easily cow the Bar Y men into retreating.
However, Parry soon becomes arrogant and domineering within the Circle C camp, refusing to leave even after his contract month is up and the boxing instructor has fled. The situation reaches a boiling point when Parry attempts to court Dotty and physically shoves Big Hat aside in front of the theatre.
Triggered by fury, the small-statured Phil unexpectedly launches a relentless assault on the giant. To the shock of the onlookers, the ferocious Parry turns out to be a physical coward who is deathly afraid of actual fights, having earned his battered face in an automobile accident rather than the ring. Phil chases him in a panicked rout through the town streets.
With the bully exposed and driven away by the smallest man on the ranch, order is restored to the valley. The revelation secures Phil's standing as a genuine hero in Dotty's eyes, paving the way for their wedding while Walrus keeps the truth of the strong man's cowardice safely under wraps.
